About:

Sandra R. Hansen turned her dreams of traveling the world and painting into reality. During the last few years she has painted in numerous American landscapes, Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden with a specialty in India. An experienced traveler Sandra has made seven trips to India, five on painting excursions. She also takes students, professional and amatuer artists with her to India to study and paint.

Despite the beauty and quality of Sandra's work she is an emerging artist as she has only painted for a few years. Sandra’s career has taken many twists and turns before arriving in the world of painting however. She began as a mechanical draftsman in an odd fit of not following her calling to be a painter. She then became a woodworker, building harps at Lyon and Healy in Chicago. After attending Hope College and earning a degree in Women's Studies she wrote 5 one woman plays. She traveled across the country performing these at numerous venues as well as four shows in India. In 1992 she ran for state representative in Michigan, but has always be grateful that she didn't win as the arts are so much more fun. During the last few years she is finally pursuing her painting vocation in a serious manner.

From June 2008 until December of 2009 Sandra took a sabatical trip across the globe to paint and teach painting. She spent five months in Sweden where she took painting classes. She then went on to Germany for one month to paint. She then made a trip to India to teach and paint. In Thailand she taught at a civic center in Bangkok and at an orphanage in Khon Kaen. Her travels then took her to Siem Reap, Cambodia where she lay around a pool and relaxed in 105 degree heat. Oh yes she toured Angkor Wat of course. In Vietnam she went on some tours of Ha Long Bay, Sapa and the Mekong Delta which left her no time to paint. She then returned to Sweden and had an exhibition of her paintings. Back home she cleaned house for three months before running back to India for two exhibitions. She had one at the American Center of the embassy in Delhi, traveled and painted in Bangalore and Kerala. After picking p her paintings in Delhi, Sandra then went to Varanasi, India where she had an exhibition at the Faclty of Visual Arts at Banaras Hindu University. This being enough traveling for the time, Sandra returned home for Christmas. This entailed driving from Michigan to Tennessee, to upstate New York and then New York City so that she could see her relatives again. The road (or sky) beckons again and in the spring Sandra will teach painting classes near Lund, Sweden and have some exhibitions there as well.
