About Desiree:
Desiree Kelly is a graduate of Wayne State University, receiving her B.F.A with a concentration in Graphic Design fall of 2011. Currently, Senior Graphic Designer and Production Manager of MetroTimes Weekly. In 2013, was selected in a collection of 8 artists in residency in RedBull House of Art- located in Eastern Market District of Detroit, MI.
She is fascinated by the human face and its varied, candid expressions. In the same way caught-off-guard, unflattering, mid-moment photographic snapshots brazenly reveal more about about a subject than a posed portrait, so too do these paintings. And unlike a haphazard click of the point-and-shoot, each of Kelly’s oil-painted portraits is charged with character. By way of stylish brush strokes and color choices, these strangers’ faces come to life in an odd way.
